Plum Blossoms, 매화꽃

GwangYang MaeHwa Festival, 광양 매화 축제

It was a perfect day to visit Maehwa village in GwangYang. We left Jeon-Ju and stopped for lunch at Hwagae Market (Hwagejangteo, 화개장터), one of the five biggest traditional markets in Korea.

In Korea, Maehwa (plum blossoms) signify that spring is around the corner, and they also represent courage and hope. Maehwa symbolizes the noble mind, perseverance, and faith. Plums are also used in side dishes, for fermenting alcohol, and believed to remedy properties.
